As we’re getting deeper into the holiday season, I find myself inspired by all the baking I see round the world and keep coming back to these beautiful cookies we made at the bakery a few weeks ago for an event with Burberry.

Of course, in our cabinet and on our shelves my favourite black pepper gingersnaps hold pride of place, but at home I love a proper old fashioned gingerbread cookie, decorated with vibrant royal icing. The best thing about these is that you can use all your favourite cookie cutters and make these with kids - they can be as elegant or as messy as you like.
I spent an afternoon this week making cookies with my daughter, Frances, and our friends. There’s something so wonderful about these traditions that make us come together especially at this time of year, in spite of everything that’s going on in our lives and in the world.
